Every child dreams of having a job that allows them to give back to the community.

Self-fulfillment and ambition are viewed as two prerequisites for a job.

However, the children of North Korea must align their ambitions with the regime in their country.

This article explores seven unusual jobs that exist in North Korea.

1. Stone Polishers

Stone polishers are government-designated employees mandated to keep the public areas sleek and shiny.

About 4,000 to 6,000 tourists from Western states visit North Korea each year. This number accounts for the lowest tourist turnout in the world.

Stone polishers are to polish the stones placed in public spaces to appeal to the tourists.

Poor people are employed to keep the streets shining throughout the year.

The aim is for tourists to be mesmerized by the perfection of North Korea’s infrastructure. This is especially true for places like Victorious War Museum in Pyongyang.

2. Rice Inspectors
